THE WORMHOLE

Poll na bPéist or the Wormhole as it is otherwise known is a striking natural rectangular shaped pool at the bottom of the cliffs, south of Dún Aonghasa. It gets it name from ‘péist’ which is the reptilian sea monster from Gaelic folklore.

The unusual rock formation also has underground channels which link up to the sea. The water rushes into the Wormhole through an underground cave, or when the tide is high, spills over and fills it up from above.

Since 2012, the wormhole has been used as a venue for the popular Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

I get the impression this formation is in fact manmade and perhaps tens of thousands of years old. The symmetrical accuracy of the rectangle is much too prominent to ignore. I wonder what artifacts or treasures lie in the channels within the cave system underneath? What a perfect place to ensure no tampering of any priceless belongings, etc. A very beautiful and intriguing place indeed!

This is no natural formation, it’s parallel side walls are too symmetrical t9 be natural, the rest of the formation shows erosion, this leads me to believe this was honed into an entryway to the portal. Also there appears to be an entryway carved into the pool towards the ocean.
