The village of Roundstone in the Connemara region of Galway is not only a picturesque place with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Connemara mountains, but also a place with a rich history and culture. In fact, Roundstone has been the home of some famous stars, such as Sting and Bill Whelan, who found inspiration and tranquility in this beautiful corner of Ireland.

One of the most remarkable attractions in Roundstone is the spectacular house on the shores of the Atlantic, known as the ‘Home of the Stars’. This spectacular home on the seafront was occupied by Sting, the singer from ‘Sting & the Police’, in the early 1980s. It was here that he wrote most of the songs on The Police’s third album, Zenyatta Mondatta, including ‘Every little thing she does is magic’, ‘Don’t stand so close to me there’ and ‘Invisible sun’.

Sting was captivated by the beauty and serenity of Roundstone and enjoyed fishing, sailing and walking in the area. He also befriended some of the locals and even performed at a pub in the village. However, his stay was cut short by some alleged death threats from the Provisional IRA, which made him flee back to England.

The Home of the Stars was later bought by Bill Whelan, the Irish composer and musician, most famous for composing the piece ‘Riverdance’ for the 1994 Eurovision song contest. Whelan renovated and extended the house, adding a recording studio and a library. He also decorated it with artworks and memorabilia from his illustrious career. Whelan still owns the house and visits it regularly. He has hosted many celebrities and artists in his home, such as Bono, The Edge, Van Morrison, Liam Neeson and Michael Flatley. Whelan has also contributed to the cultural life of Roundstone, organizing concerts and festivals in the village.

If you want to see the Home of the Stars, you can admire it from the roadside. Unfortunately, the house is not open to the public as it is a private residence. However, you can still appreciate its architecture and its location in this stunning landscape.
