CASHEL HOUSE HOTEL AND GARDENS

0.0

If you are looking for a tranquil and scenic place to visit in the west of Ireland, you might want to consider Cashel House Hotel, a four-star country house hotel that overlooks the majestic Cashel Bay on the Wild Atlantic Way. Not only does this hotel offer luxurious accommodation, fine dining and a private beach, but it also boasts 50 acres of award-winning gardens and woodlands that are a delight for any nature lover.

The gardens at Cashel House Hotel are a place of profound beauty, a place of meditation and relaxation, that benefit from the warmth of the gulf stream. They have been lovingly cultivated by the McEvilly family, who converted the 19th-century country home into a hotel in 1968. The gardens have won several national awards, including the Overall Winner of the National Garden Awards in 1999.

The gardens feature a variety of exotic and exquisite flowering shrubs, many imported from Tibet, including rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and rare beautiful magnolias. The colours and fragrances are stunning, especially in spring when blossoms galore welcome the season in all its glory. The gardens also have their own herb garden, where fresh herbs are grown for the hotel’s kitchen. No chemicals are needed to encourage growth, as a mixture of seaweed from the beach and some secret ingredients are used as a natural fertilizer.

The gardens are not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the ears and the soul. You can hear the soothing sound of water from streams and fountains, as well as the chirping of birds and insects. You can also spot some wildlife, such as rabbits, foxes, badgers and otters. Benches are located throughout the garden for rest and reflection, where you can enjoy the views of the sea and the mountains.

If you are feeling more adventurous, you can also explore the woodlands and walk along the seashore, where you can find some secluded coves and sandy beaches. You can also climb up to the summit of Cashel Hill, where you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the sea, sky and coastline. The walk is about 3 km long and takes about an hour to complete.

The gardens at Cashel House Hotel are open to the public from April to October, from 10 am to 6 pm. You can also book a guided tour with one of the gardeners, who will share their knowledge and passion for this hidden gem in Connemara.

If you want to experience the beauty and tranquility of these gardens for yourself, you can check out the Cashel House Hotel website.
