NATIONAL PARKS AND NATURE RESERVES

There is no doubt about it, we are simply spoiled in Galway when it comes to the outdoors. With it’s very diverse, dramatic and beautiful landscape, it’s no surprise that many visitors often comment on how stunning the region is. But not only can you experience the immense beauty of the natural environment, you can also find a diverse range of wildlife, plants and flowers here too.

In order to protect these beautiful areas and thriving ecosystems, you will find the spectacular Connemara National Park and several beautiful nature reserves scattered throughout Galway. Although these are designated areas of conservation and important habitats for flora and fauna,  they are open to the public for educational, cultural, and controlled recreational use.

Within the Connemara National Park and several Nature Reserves you can find a number of fantastic walking trails to explore these designated areas. As they are designed to protect acres and acres of outstanding beauty consisting of unique flora and fauna, it is a truly wonderful experience to explore them by foot, and simply a must visit if you’re a lover of the outdoors!
