The cottage is now a museum that has been refurbished to revive its past glory and is dedicated to John Millington Synge, the celebrated playwright, who visited the house for the first time in 1898.

J.M Synge is most famous for his works of ‘Riders to the Sea’ (1904) which has been hailed by many to be the finest one act tragedy of the 20th century, and his master drama ‘The Playboy of the Western World’ (1907).
