Connemara Pony Show
The 98th Annual Connemara Pony Show takes place in the town of Clifden in Connemara from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th August 2023.
Showcasing the best of Connemara Ponies in Ireland, the 3-day festival attracts breeders and owners from all over the world to the Showgrounds in the beautiful town in Clifden, the heart of Connemara. Festival goers can expect parades, musical evenings, discussions and talks along with the highlight of the festival, the Connemara Pony Show itself taking place on Thursday. The show is the biggest showcase of Connemara Ponies in the world with the ponies competing in in-hand classes, ridden classes, working hunter classes, and a puissance (or high jump) competition. With so many other events taking place throughout the week from live music, to dog shows, to domestic arts show and Irish Dancing, even for those non-pony enthusiasts there is something for everyone! What’s more, in December 2023, the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society, organisers of the fabulous pony show, will celebrate one hundred years since the Society’s foundation – so this years show promises to be that extra bit special!
The Connemara Pony is a distinctive breed with excellent qualities: strong, intelligent and very hard working, perfect for the wild unforgiving landscape of Connemara, the Galway region that gave them their name. Their genial disposition makes them excellent pets while their powerful build makes them good jumpers and great show ponies.
